Brrrrrouilly
Brrrrrr….
You can feel that chill in the air -especially in the evenings- on the East Coast. September is here.
Fall weather is coming. Pumpkin spice everything is everywhere. It’s the time of year when you can still fit in some fabulous beach days, but you need a sweater at night, and you’re maxed out on rosé for the season.
There’s something about September that makes me reluctant to let go of summer. Winter always seems to come on so fast and last for so long.
If you’re still hanging onto those warmer, lazy days, may I suggest a perfect transitional wine: Brouilly. Made with gamay grapes, from Brouilly, which is in Beaujolais. Light and silky with red crunchy fruit, and a rustic hint of game, this is the perfect red wine to drink with appetizers and charcuterie on a Sunday evening. It’s lovely chilled just a bit below room temperature, so you can enjoy its full flavors as it warms up.
This beauty is organic, from Alex Foillard, a fresh young winemaker who works wonders with old vines. The 2019 is sold out, but his 2020 is available for $43 at Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant. A perfect red to ease into fall.
Chin!
