New Wine On The Block
Wölffer Estate has a new wine in its Summer in a Bottle family: Sauvignon Blanc.
Like their other Summer in a Bottle wines, it comes in a beautiful floral bottle that brightens any table, but this version is 97% Sauvignon Blanc, 3% Pinot Blanc.
It’s a pale—almost white—straw color, with fresh stony, mineral, and honeysuckle aromas. While most Sauvignon Blancs from the New World (America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa) have green pepper and grassy notes, this Long Island grown Sauv Blanc isn’t very green in smell or taste at all. It’s subtly tart, with more kiwi fruit flavor than green vegetable, and a hint of yeast.
This is a Sauvignon Blanc for French Sauvignon Blanc lovers. If you’re a Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé drinker, give this a go. This is also a great Sauvignon Blanc for people who AREN’T Sauvignon Blanc lovers, like me. It’s refreshing, and crisp, with a bit more body than most light summer whites.
