Rosé All Day Chinon Edition
I promised to review a Rosé Chinon when I found one I loved.
And wouldn’t you know it, I found one that I loved.
If you’re someone who thinks they don’t drink pink, think again.
This is a wine for you.
Why do I love Charles Joguet Rosé Chinon 2022 (which is $23.99 on Wine.com)? Let me count the ways:
It has this badass vintage looking French label that just screams “cool”…and it has the street cred to back it up; this is the 45th vintage of this wine imported to the U.S.
Speaking of importers, this comes to us courtesy of the legendary Kermit Lynch. If you’ve never heard of him, or Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, you’re missing out. Kermit brings exceptional French wines to the U.S., from awesome, and often hard to find, regions, like Corsica. This is one of the first rosés he ever imported.
This wine has a bright cantaloupe color that instantly made me think of peaches and melons. It also smells of strawberries and tastes of tangy red fruits like cherries, with a bit of white pepper.
It’s made with Cabernet Franc grapes from older vines (30 years on average) which gives it this rustic, old world feel that only old vines can offer.
It was fermented in stainless steel and didn’t go through malolactic fermentation (which reduces tart acids into more mellow creamy ones) so it still has plenty of tart freshness.
14% alcohol gives this wine more body than most rosés. It’s nice and round and perfectly balanced.
If you’re looking for a wine to bring to a backyard party this spring/summer, this is it. It would practically go with everything.
Chin!
