Rosé, Rosado, Rosato...
What the hell is the difference? Basically, the country.
🇫🇷 Rosé is pink wine.
It’s typically called Rosé in French, English, and Portuguese speaking countries.
🇪🇸 Rosado is the name for pink wine in Spain and other Spanish speaking countries.
🇮🇹 Rosato is the name for pink wine in Italy.
The grapes used in pink wines can vary by country, and even region.
In France–especially in Provence– they use a lot of Grenache.
In Spain–especially in Navarra– Garnacha (Spanish for Grenache) is popular too.
In Italy, Rosato can come from Pinot Grigio, Montepulciano, Premetta…
My best friend, came to visit and brought this 2022 Azienda Agricola San Salvatore Vetere IGP Campania Rosato. I was psyched because we don’t drink a ton of Italian wine around here. What a refreshing change!
It’s the palest of pink almost clear, made with organically grown Aglianico grapes, from the Campania region of Southern Italy.
It has strawberry aromas and flavors, but isn’t sweet.
This Rosato is bright and fresh, but also beautifully soft.
It was a great match with salmon, but also absolutely delicious on its own, very chilled on a hot day. You can find it online for about $27-$30.
